Afton Williams, graduated magna cum laude with a B. A. in Early Childhood/Elementary Education and certification in Special Education. She began her teaching career at Bonsall Family School in Camden, New Jersey where she taught first and third grade from 2011 through 2013. Beginning in January 2014, she joined the teaching staff at LEAP Academy Charter School in Camden, New Jersey where she teaches second grade.
Her academic achievements include being awarded a four- year Presidential Scholarship to Neumann College, now known as Neumann University. After entering Neumann in September 2005, she was named to the Vice-President’s Academic Honor List from 2005-2009 and inducted as a Member of the Delta Epsilon National Honor Society.
For the past four years, Ms. Williams has also tutored small groups of children who are performing below grade level in math and literacy through the YES! Program sponsored by Rutgers University-Camden. Her greatest objective in her professional life is to help students develop a love of learning by utilizing various instructional techniques— including hands on learning and differentiated lessons plans to meet the unique needs of all her students. Every student she has instructed knows and understands the importance of how positive learning experiences can motivate them to accept new challenges with confidence and determination. Ms. Williams’ efforts are an affirmation that every educational opportunity presented in a supportive and nurturing environment is a valuable asset to facilitate learning.
